Prepare for your Pilot

It is common for organizations to run a Proof of Concept (POC) or a Pilot to trial Blue Prism capabilities before fully deploying a digital workforce. Such pilots help demonstrate the value of RPA to the business once deployed successfully by demonstrating tangible value.

Find an owner

It is important to have an owner for the Pilot within your organization. This person may take the role of Head of RPA in future and will likely act as the RPA evangelist during your RPA journey. More information on the Head of RPA role can be found here

Start with the right use case

When selecting your pilot process, it is important to start with a process which meets the following criteria:

  • You have enough data to test it
  • It has solid automation potential (i.e. highly repetitive tasks)
  • It is relatively simple to build in order to create a quick win and demonstrate the benefit of RPA.

You can find out how you can identify the best use cases for your pilot in the Governance and Pipeline foundation.

Deliver the pilot

The pilot process will need to be delivered using a methodology that incorporates all of the logical stages of a production deployment. Blue Prism provide a vanilla methodology and various templates for organizations to utilize. See Delivery Approach for more information.

It is recommended that a Business Continuity Plan and an Operational Handbook are created for the pilot with the view that the process will be permanently deployed once complete. This will enable you to continue operations and mitigate any risk if the process is deployed to production.

Build a technical infrastructure with scale in mind

It is important to build your infrastructure platform for Blue Prism in a scalable and resilient way from the beginning. Taking this approach will make expanding beyond the pilot easier and more cost effective.
