Building a Vision

The Vision of each organization will differ depending on a number of factors, not least the Corporate Strategy for each organization.

For example, if your organization has a focus on customer service, you may look to focus your vision on providing a digital workforce to help you deliver the industry's best customer experience.

The vision is often a collaboration between the Head of RPA and the relevant executive sponsors. It should be signed off by the appropriate executives, and while it should be ambitious it should also be achievable in a timeline of 3-5 years.

Format

Vision: The vision statement should be short and unambiguous. It should be something unique which only you can provide i.e. referring to Digital Workers, Hybrid Workforces or Intelligent Automation.

Mission Statement: The mission statement should be more detailed and specific.

Objectives: Define the objectives which will help you achieve your vision. These should be aligned with the corporate strategy and objectives. For example, if the organisation has an objective for improving customer service your objective should define how your automation service will deliver that.

The ROM Framework

It is recommended that you use the Foundations of the ROM when considering your strategy for delivering your objectives:

Organization: Define how the organizational model will look and how it will evolve to meet the objectives and overall vision. Plan how you will approach business integration to drive cultural adoption of the digital workforce.

Governance and Pipeline: Define the areas you will look to automate and how you will build and maintain the pipeline. Document how you will maintain controls and governance of the capability from the start. Find out more about managing your governance and pipeline.

Delivery Methodology: Plan how you will deliver as you grow. For example, will you work through partners or establish your own capability? Find out more about establishing a delivery methodology.

Service Model: Define how the Digital Workforce will be managed and maintained as you evolve. Find out more about establishing a robust service model.

People: Define how you will evolve your teams in terms of roles, skills, number of resources and certification levels. Find out more about the people needed to deploy RPA.

Technology: Plan for a scaled deployment by defining the goal for Digital Worker numbers and how this will be achieved. Find out more about the technology.
